La protesta era diretta contro il presidente Traian Basescu, ritenuto responsabile dell’abbassamento del tenore di vita dei rumeni e del minaccioso piano di austerità. La manifestazione nel centro di Bucarest, iniziata pacificamente, è ben presto degenerata in scontri con la polizia.
Alla fine si sono registrati 10 feriti, tra cui 4 agenti e un cameraman.
Una trentina i dimostranti fermati e condotti in commissariato.
In altre città della Romania si sono svolte manifestazioni contro la riforma della sanità che prevede di dare più spazio alle strutture private.
There have been violent scenes in the Romanian capital Bucharest between police and protestors demonstrating over health service cuts. Nine people were injured, as officers used tear gas while some in the crowd threw petrol bombs. Thousands have been taking to the streets across the country, angry at more government austerity measures needed to get new financial help from the International Monetary Fund. Opponents say the already outdated medical system will be further worsened and living standards reduced.
