We have now found a new home and it is Youtube. In order to keep the the content serving up free, beer flowing and fishing rod wet we have decided to move the site completely over to YouTube - so consider this the official home of JoeCartoon. We hope that all our active fans will find sanctuary in our new spot and keep it active and alive.

 In Italia è depresso un adulto su 4, mentre in Europa il numero delle persone colpite da depressione sale a circa 60 milioni. A soffrirne di più, nel Bel Paese, sono le donne, il 12% della popolazione rispetto al 5,9% degli uomini, e sono tante (54%) coloro che ritengono che curare la depressione sia più difficile di curare un tumore al seno.
Forse la loro percezione è un po' esagerata, ma effettivamente una persona su 3 è ancora ammalata dopo 1 anno, 1 su 10 deve continuare la terapia per almeno 5 anni, più della metà sarà nuovamente depresso nell'arco della sua vita.
Secondo le ultime ricerche scientifiche, la depressione può essere determinata già quando si è nel grembo materno.
Se una donna incinta abusa di alcol e droghe, viene maltrattata o subisce pesanti stress, trasmette al feto comportamenti negativi ma anche un patrimonio genetico compromesso.
I geni che regolano lo sviluppo cerebrale non cambiano però nella struttura, ma nella funzione da input ambientali.
Secondo l'Organizzazione mondiale della Sanità, la depressione, tanto difficile da debellare, diventerà, entro il 2020, la seconda causa di invalidità dopo le patologie cardiache. I farmaci usati fino ad ora non offrono un sollievo immediato dai sintomi depressivi, ma, anzi, causano una serie di effetti collaterali difficili da sopportare per i pazienti, che spesso interrompono le cure. Tuttavia, di recente alcuni ricercatori sono arrivati allo sviluppo di una nuova classe di farmaci basata sull'agomelatina, una sostanza che offrirebbe sollievo già dalla prima settimana di trattamento, senza avere gli effetti collaterali presentati dai farmaci attuali.

At 5pm EST Friday 22nd October 2010 WikiLeaks released the largest classified military leak in history. The 391,832 reports ('The Iraq War Logs'), document the war and occupation in Iraq, from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2009 (except for the months of May 2004 and March 2009) as told by soldiers in the United States Army. Each is a 'SIGACT' or Significant Action in the war. They detail events as seen and heard by the US military troops on the ground in Iraq and are the first real glimpse into the secret history of the war that the United States government has been privy to throughout.
The reports detail 109,032 deaths in Iraq, comprised of 66,081 'civilians'; 23,984 'enemy' (those labeled as insurgents); 15,196 'host nation' (Iraqi government forces) and 3,771 'friendly' (coalition forces). The majority of the deaths (66,000, over 60%) of these are civilian deaths.That is 31 civilians dying every day during the six year period. For comparison, the 'Afghan War Diaries', previously released by WikiLeaks, covering the same period, detail the deaths of some 20,000 people. Iraq during the same period, was five times as lethal with equivalent population size.

NASA lucreazã la un plan îndrãznet de a trimite pentru totdeauna astronauti pe Marte, pentru a coloniza aceastã planetã, dar si altele. Proiectul este denumit Hundred Year Starship si a primit recent o finantare de peste 1,5 milioane de dolari, potrivit Daily Mail, citat de Newser.com. Însã acesta este doar un mic procent din cele 10 miliarde necesare. NASA sperã cã va strânge bani de la miliardarii interesati de acest proiect. Printre acestia se numãrã Larry Page, unul dintre fondatorii Google, care si-a manifestat deja interesul în acest sens.
“Programul spatial uman are acum ca tintã stabilirea în alte lumi. În urmã cu 20 de ani erai nevoit sã soptesti asa ceva pe la colturi, altfel erai concediat”, a declarat directorul Ames Research Center al NASA.
Potrivit unor noi studii, o cãlãtorie doar dus cãtre Marte ar fi mai ieftinã si fezabilã decât una dus-întors. Astronautii ar primi provizii în mod regulat, însã ar trebui sã se descurce singuri.

Il miliardario e guru della finanza George Soros ha donato un milione di dollari alla Drug Policy Alliance, uno dei principali comitati in favore della legalizzazione della marijuana in California. Lo scrive l'edizione online del quotidiano San Francisco Chronicle, precisando che Soros è un sostenitore di lunga data della legalizzazione delle droghe leggere.
Il 2 novembre, in occasione delle elezioni di midterm negli Usa, gli elettori della California potranno pronunciarsi anche in un referendum per rendere legale l'uso della marijuana. Il presidente Barack Obama si è detto contrario alla legalizzazione della marijuana in California, uno degli stati più permissivi degli Usa.
Intanto il presidente Obama ha già votato per le elezioni di midterm. L'inquilino della Casa Bianca ha compilato la sua scheda a Washington. La scheda è destinata ad essere inviata per posta al suo luogo di residenza a Chicago. Obama ha votato per i candidati democratici per un seggio al Senato (Alexi Giannoulias) e per la carica di governatore dell' Illinois (Pat Quinn), ha precisato il portavoce della Casa Bianca Robert Gibbs. La first lady Michelle aveva già votato durante una sua recente visita a Chicago.

5. Delivery system: Basically a "Farmers Market” waist level train that brings the harvest to an adjacent building where the public can get the food right off the train carts. After a few days, whatever isn’t taken is returned and converted into mulch that can be used for outdoor facilities. Nothing is wasted.
6. Externally facing monitors in the building showing the interior of the facility, because the facility itself has no windows. Cameras in the facility can show the public what’s going on inside, to satisfy curiosity more than anything else, but also good for public awareness. Also, monitors would show the harvest cycle, what’s coming up next and when.
7. Each facility would grow 12 of the most healthy and popular vegetables, enough to feed 1,000 people per crop. After plenty of research, there is a good consensus on what those are: Spinach, Green Peas, Red Leaf Lettuce, Garlic, Onions, Carrots, Brocolli, Brussel Sprouts, Cauliflower, Tomatoes, Red Peppers and Green Peppers.
Currently I am researching cost and systems, as well as designing the informal blueprint of the facility in an Engineering CAD program. All of my information will be released as an official report for all chapters to access freely. You might have different companies, different prices for materials, and need a different design layout based on that, but the report will give you a great starting point.
I am not a know-it-all, but I do a vast amount of self study and research on the topics of science (including social sciences), space and technology (viable technology, not the latest video game or phone widget). I look forward to bringing this knowledge to the movement and to the project. Remember, you personally don’t have to convince the world. We are all working together, neighbor by neighbor, community by community.  Considerat o veritabila minune a preistoriei, complexul megalitic de la Stonehenge nu a incetat sa-i uimeasca pe arheologi, care nici la ora actuala nu pot preciza de ce si mai ales cum a fost construit. Ceea ce este si mai straniu e faptul ca in ultimele decenii au fost descoperite, nu doar in vestul Europei, ci si in Africa, Asia si America Latina, constructii similare, cladite nu doar la suprafata pamantului ci, parca pentru a spori misterul si in adancuri...
Despre Silbury Hill cu siguranta multi dintre dumneavoastra ati auzit. Este o colina de forma unui mamelon din calcar si pamant, inalta de aproape 40 metri si veche de patru milenii si jumatate, situata la circa 150 km vest de Londra. Pana nu demult, se credea ca acest tumul megalitic ar adaposti mormantul unei capetenii stravechi sau, potrivit legendelor locale, comorile blestemate ale diavolului insusi.
Saptamana trecuta, o serie de sapaturi efectuate la baza tumulului, alaturi de masuratori cu ajutorul radarului si sonarului, au relevat, in sfarsit, adevarul: Silbury Hill reprezenta, probabil, un altar presarat cu dale uriase de piatra, inchinat spiritelor stramosilor si constituind un veritabil „Stonehenge in oglinda”, in sensul ca stalpii de roca nu sunt expusi vederii, ci ingropati in pamant.
„Cimitirul virtual al preistoriei”
 Cercetatorii britanici erau de multa vreme preocupati de enigma acestei movile unice in Albion si, in ciuda investigatiilor, ea se incapatanase sa ramana nerezolvata. Tehnologiile ultramoderne le-au permis insa oamenilor de stiinta sa dea verdictul final: in interiorul tumulului de la Silbury Hill nu se afla nici un fel de oseminte umane si nici artefacte realizate de mana omului. In schimb, s-au gasit sute de stalpi de calcar, care aveau probabil semnificatie religioasa, intruchipand spiritele stramosilor raposati – un fel de „cimitir virtual al preistoriei”, cum i-a spus arheologul Jim Leary, unul dintre reprezentantii English Heritage. Aceasta asociatie a demarat recent un proiect in valoare de un milion de lire sterline pentru conservarea monumentului megalitic, aflat intr-o stare avansata de deteriorare, mai ales dupa inundatiile masive din anul 2000, care au distrus o parte a sa.
„Descoperirea zecilor de stalpi din calcar in interiorul monumentului a fost o mare surpriza pentru noi. Data fiind natura religioasa si ceremoniala a movilei Silbury este foarte posibil ca aceste pietre sa fi avut o importanta istorica, reprezentand poate spiritele stramosilor morti”, spune Leary. Specialistul britanic mai adauga faptul ca Silbury, dar si monumente din regiune, precum Stonehenge sau Avebury, au fost inaltate intr-o perioada de mari schimbari din preistoria insulelor britanice, care erau supuse unor puternice influente din partea culturilor venite de pe continent. Se pare ca nimeni nu a locuit aici in neolitic, deoarece zona era considerata sacra.
Terry Dobney, un druid modern al regiunii Avebury, in a carui „jurisdictie” intra si monumentul megalitic de la Silbury Hill, este de acord ca „avem de-a face cu un tumul sacru, o efigie a elementului Apa”. Dealul a capatat o forma semisferica intre 2400 si 2000 i.Hr., dar „tuguiul” din varf a fost retezat pe la anul 1000, cand saxonii au instalat aici o fortareata. „S-ar putea ca varful movilei sa fi fost nivelat pe la 1066, chiar in perioada bataliei de la Hastings, ori poate mai devreme, pentru a stavili invaziile vikingilor”, crede Leary.

A recent announcement was made, saying that George Soros, a billionaire who was born in Hungary, recently donated a million dollars to the “Proposition 19” campaign that is seeking to legalize marijuana in California.
The ballots on November 2 will contain an area for Californians to vote on whether or not Marijuana should be legalized in the State, a move that The Drug Policy Alliance is hoping for. The group’s main focus is to decriminalize the use of drugs in the United States. The group also confirmed that Soros had donated the million dollars to the “Proposition 19” campaign.
Soros earlier announced that he would be supporting the movement in the Wall Street Journal, although he did not give details about what his support would look like. Soros issued a statement to the magazine, saying, “Regulating and taxing marijuana would simultaneously save taxpayers billions of dollars in enforcement and incarcerations costs, while providing billions of dollars in revenue annually.”
He went on to say that legalizing marijuana would “also reduce crime, violence and corruption associated with drug markets, and the violations of civil liberties and human rights that occur when large numbers of otherwise law abiding citizens are subject to arrest. Police could focus on serious crime instead.”

 Dalle colline dell’Emilia al Viterbese, passando per il confine Puglia-Basilicata e alcune zone del Piacentino e del Monferrato: le aree per le scorie nucleari sono state individuate. Sono 52 in tutto, adatte per ospitare i rifiuti radioattivi.
A deciderle è stata la Sogin, società per la gestione degli impianti nucleari controllata dal ministero del Tesoro. Ogni sito è grande 300 ettari e, almeno potenzialmente per ora, deve offrire anche una zona per i ricercatori, circa mille.
Per ora però il piano per le scorie resta congelato, ufficialmente perché in attesa della creazione dell’Agenzia per la sicurezza del nucleare. C’è chi invece la pensa diversamente, Antonio Filippi responsabile energia del Dipartimento Reti e Terziario della CGIL nazionale dice: « Forse il vero motivo è perché c’è il serio rischio di elezioni anticipate». E il ministro ad interim per lo Sviluppo economico è ancora Silvio Berlusconi.
In ogni caso le Regioni che in futuro accetteranno di accogliere i depositi radioattivi saranno lautamente ricompensate, ma per ora Sogin vuole muoversi con cautela per evitare il rischio di opposizione popolare.
Lo spiega direttore per lo sviluppo sostenibile del ministero dell’Ambiente Corrado Clini al Corriere della Sera: «Dobbiamo evitare quello che è accaduto con il deposito unico di Scanzano Jonico non si può decidere che si va lì se prima non si sono verificate le condizioni di fattibilità».
Quindi per ora l’obiettivo 2013 sembra sempre più lontano.

This is a pretty straight forward concept and completely realistic in every manner. The sad part is that it’s just not being done. Instead of aid relief non-profits gathering money to buy food, thereby fattening the wallets of the food industry, they should be building sustainable food production systems for impoverished people so that we never have to worry about their food supply again! Alas, our current system doesn’t exactly want that, but we (The Venus Project) do, so this is something we should be trying to work on a global level. World hunger, solved by The Venus Project. I like the sound of that, not for selfish reasons, but because it’s the right thing to do, so why shouldn’t we be the ones doing it? So what would this system be made of?
1. Solar/Wind hybrid powered facility with substantial battery systems such that any climate condition throughout the year would not reduce the energy level of the facility below tolerance operating conditions.
2. Hermetically sealed building, with an atmosphere pressure and concentrations of Nitrogen and Oxygen set to the Paleozoic era, when plants thrived on the Earth as never before. It requires one to pass through a “clean room” before even being able to enter the growth facility, including wearing a “bunny suit” the likes of which is required for those who work in space industry clean rooms for satellites and space hardware.
3. Use the Omega Garden system, which I’ve already researched to be the best system that takes up the smallest footprint, but also delivers the most robust and strongest yields without using one drop of “plant altering” chemicals or pesticides. It’s kind of difficult to have pests in a hermetically sealed building.
4. Robotic planting and harvesting arms strategically placed in the facility.
